Mikage Mizutani

Mikage joined Rook Irwin Sweeney as a paralegal in March 2024. She has a particular interest in Court of Protection work, community care and mental capacity law. Prior to this, she worked at another niche firm specialising in claimant only Court of Protection and community care matters.

Mikage studied Law at the University of Bristol and completed an LLM in human rights law, graduating first in her cohort. For her undergraduate dissertation, she examined the proposed legal reforms to the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) and the anticipated impact on the human rights of individuals subject to the safeguards. Upon completion of this, she delivered a presentation to social workers at the Alzheimer’s Society explaining the implications of the changes to the DoLS scheme under the new Liberty Protection Safeguards.

Whilst completing her studies, Mikage was involved in various pro-bono initiatives aimed at increasing access to justice for vulnerable individuals. She volunteered as a Student Advisor at the University of Bristol Law Clinic and worked on various public law matters, including family, employment and housing law. Additionally, Mikage volunteered for Bristol Mind’s Information Line, referring callers to the appropriate mental health support services and fundraised for pro-bono charities, Advocate and LawWorks.
